Our Adoption Process

Thanks for your interest in Kybra Kennels! One of the first questions we get asked is what is the process for getting a puppy from Kybra Kennels. We realize that all breeders have different procedures for acquiring a puppy.  Our goal is to make the process easy and informative. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to Contact Us and we will be happy to answer your questions. The steps below are an outline of how our procedure works:

1. Browse the Website

Browse the website, including our FAQ page. We have lots of information on the website regarding both Siberian Huskies and Portuguese Water Dogs. We don’t have a long complicated interview process, but we do expect people to do their research and know what they are committing to before starting the process.  “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest” Benjamin Franklin

2. Fill out the Online Application Form

When you are comfortable and have decided to proceed with acquiring a puppy from Kybra Kennels, you can fill out and submit the online application form. This form will give us the information we need to contact you when it is your turn to choose a puppy. It will also give us an idea of what you are looking for in a puppy, specifically breed, gender, colour and time frame.

3. Submit a Deposit

When we have received the application form and we’re confident that you would provide a good home for one of our puppies we will reach out via email. At that point we will require a $200.00 deposit to get your name added to the waiting list. The easiest way to send a deposit is E-Transfer. The deposit is non-refundable, but it is transferable to fit with your timing. For example, if you are looking for a male and when it is your turn to choose a puppy, we only have females left, you will not be required to take a male. You will have the option at that point to wait for the next available litter or until we have what you are looking for. You will not lose your place in line or move to the bottom of the list. You will always get to choose before the people that placed deposits after you. The same applies to timing. If you are not able to take a puppy when it’s your turn to choose you will always have the option to wait for a future litter. We will confirm receipt of the deposit and your name being added to the list via email.

4. Watch for your Puppy

Now that your name is on the list you can start to watch for your puppy. Keep an eye on our Upcoming Litters Page to see which litters are expected. When the puppies are 3-4 weeks old, we will post the pictures of the puppies on the website. Above the puppy’s pictures you will see a list of names. This is the list of people with deposits down and we will be contacting people in chronological order to choose their puppy (see step 5). As people choose their puppies, we will mark them sold and add the puppy’s microchip number beside the name of the person that claimed the puppy. This way you can see how close you are to being able to choose. If your name is not on the list it could be for one of 2 reasons. You’re too far down the list to have a reasonable chance of getting a puppy in this litter or if you specified that you want a puppy at a later date. So, if you don’t want a puppy before June and the current litter happens to be ready for pick up in April, we won’t have your name on the list. If you feel your name should be on the list and you don’t see it, feel free to Contact Us. We definitely don’t want to overlook someone!

5. Pick Your Puppy

The time has finally come! The puppies are old enough for visitors and we are starting the selection process. We will contact everyone on the list in the order they placed their deposits. You will have the option to choose via the pictures on the website or to set up an appointment to come and meet the puppies and choose in person. If you are not able to come in person and would like choose from the pictures, the ones with green titles are the ones available for you to choose from. We’re happy to answers questions about the puppies in this situation. If you come out to choose in person, we will have all the available puppies out for you to meet and play with and make your selection. We generally try to schedule as many people as possible on a selection day. So do your best to be on time. You will be given roughly half an hour to make your choice.

6. Take Your Puppy Home

The day is here and you can pick up your puppy. This is a bittersweet day for us, we do get attached to the puppies and letting them go can be hard. However, we enjoy the anticipation and excitement that goes along with picking up a new puppy.
We allow the puppies to go to their new homes at 8 weeks of age. At that point they are weaned and have had their first shots and vet check. We will schedule a day & time that works for you to come and pick up your puppy. We will fill out all the paperwork at the time of pick up. The paperwork that needs to be filled out includes the microchip registration form, the non-breeding agreement and the
purchase agreement. We will register you for your complimentary 6 weeks of health insurance and go over the health records including when the next shots are due. The balance of the payment is also due at this time. We will also take the time to answer any questions you may have about the transition process.
